His main opponent came from a poor neighborhood, got into trouble for stealing a car, had to get a GED and worked her way up through college and law school as a receptionist and office manager.

This, apparently, does not make them a "normal person" but a "party insider".

If this is the mindset of reddit's leadership team then they're fucking idiots. If anything the history of social media is littered with companies that thought they'd be fine because they were the big name to go to. It's not simply Digg but MySpace, AOL, Yahoo, etc.

Anderson Cooper worked two internships at CIA after attending Yale and never had any formal journalism or broadcasting education before being hired by CNN.

It's amazing how you can just lie and everyone starts believing that this is true. Cooper worked for ChannelOne (where he really made his mark) and then at ABC before CNN. He started as a fact checker at ChannelOne and basically used his wealth to go to Myanmar to report on events there.

There are plenty of solo women hikers on the trail and from what I heard this past year was full of them to an unusual point of being a 60/40 split where in most years it seems more like an 80/20 split.

The trail is safe. When people talk about hiking alone it's a bit of a misnomer. You're hiking in a community. Are you alone within that community? Sort of in that you hike at your own pace, do your own thing, etc. but you're never really alone in terms of not having a support network around you.
