God, Accelerando was an existential nightmare to read. If anything, the future described into it is the closest thing to how I'd see a singularity play out in real life: soulless AIs that tirelessly enforce hypercapitalism for no other reason than because they were programmed that way, and eventually ran out of control until they became the legal equivalent of a paperclip maximizer.

Hi! Former private pilot here.
When doing a long flight (3+ hours), how do you alleviate the boredom between takeoff, landing and looking around for other airplanes just to make really really really sure?

I'm going out on a giant limb here, but who knows, perhaps this attempt could bear fruit.
I live in a city where gas price at the pump behaves like no other place in North America, that I know of. I went on GasBuddy and screenshotted a comparative chart to show what's going on.
Montreal is the only city where the price has a pronounced sawtooth shape over time. It shoots up by over a dozen cents per litre one day, gradually falls down over the next 7-8 days, then shoots back up again. Quebec City has the same behavior but it's much less pronounced. All other cities that I punched in did not exhibit this behavior.
Do you have any inkling as to what might be going on here? Have you seen such a thing before elsewhere?
