It really depends on the dog. I have two Great Pyrenees, about 250 lb total, and quite often we have to literally drag them outside. Some large breeds are incredibly low energy, but space itself can definitely be a concern.

Honestly, in an apartment, I'd be more concerned about how much they bark since the neighbors might complain. A lot of apartments also have size restrictions.

Yeah, I think the theory is that it's padding for your heart.
