Not OP but I have a lot of close ties to show jumping.

The craziest thing about the sport to me is the fact that the horse stops seeing the jump at a surprisingly long distance away from the take off point. This is due to the placement of their eyes. (10 degrees directly in front/back is a blind spot.) This essentially means that the horse has to trust the rider to tell it when to jump.

Imagine convincing a human to trust you on that level, let alone a massive animal that cannot speak a language.

Their failure to uphold justice does exactly that.

The entire town is complicit in these crimes.

And you're wrong. This town has a culture that actively suppressed evidence and demonized victims of rape.

They are 100 percent complicit until they actually do something proactive instead of wringing their hands and saying "boys will be boys".

This is black and white. There is the right side of history and the wrong. Rape is a capital crime and the perpetrators must be brought to justice. This town failed in that responsibility in every single measure.
