Most of the music Varg Vikernes has made is more black metal. Which has a reputation for being more political and racist. There's even an entire genre called NSBM (National Socialist Black Metal) which Varg is more or less given credit to starting. Varg is basically the worst choice for saying extreme metal isn't racist.
