Hey Jeff, big fan! You’ve been involved with efforts to bring The Giver to the screen for years, originally envisioning your father in the role you’re now playing. What drew you to the book, and how does it feel finally seeing it made after so many years?

Well played.

I was there (I'm the guy who Maron talks to at 4:00 when he wonders why he keeps staring at me. Spoilers: It's cause I'm awesome).

The interview was mostly fine, but Franco clearly A. didn't really know about Marc, and B. wasn't prepared to really get into why he does what he does. Marc was asking really interesting questions, and even pushing for answers when Franco ignored some questions - the answer Franco ultimately gives on the General Hospital question is completely interesting, but only after Marc asked him a second time.

At the end of the interview, Marc calls him out a little bit on the fact that he clearly does take himself seriously (after Franco says that he doesn't), and Franco in the room looked a little surprised, then sort of turned to Harmony Korine (who was a good sport for someone who seems very awkward in an interview situation) with a "Can you believe this guy?" look. Marc immediately realize that he had pissed Franco off and tried to sort of apologize, and Franco still seemed peeved as the show ended and they left the stage.

Hi David, big fan of The Wire, Homicide, and The Corner. I absolutely understand your feelings towards Bill Marimow and John Carroll, but how would you respond to the criticism that your use of Marimow's name on one of the few one dimensional villains in the show, and making the Gus character one of the few faultless characters in the show (battling the black hat editors meant to be Marimow and Carroll), were two rare cases where your own grudges overwhelmed the show's larger deeply-nuanced social commentary and shades-of-grey worldview?

Thanks for doing this AMA!
