The unfortunate part is people with CF actually shouldn't be around other CFers. I'm sure OP can shed more light on the matter, but I believe it's frowned upon as they can make each other more sick.

Yes it is medically proven. I'm on my phone so I can't source, but it's easy to google. There's an increased risk of infection because of a bacteria called B. Cepacia that is easily spread between CF patients.
