If you just have a glass of milk and oreos on the news desk during a segment and never reference them at all that would be pretty amazing.

I think people get burnout. It's like being on a scene where someone has died and everyone is making jokes or not being completely respectful, because otherwise it's overwhelming. But maybe it's also the ability that people have to be total assholes when they don't think anyone sees them. Maybe both?

What kind of labor did they have you doing? Did you ever rebel or try to get out of working for them, and what happened if so?

You shouldn't feel guilty - you may very well have saved your kid from something damaging happening, you just won't ever know because you were proactive and put their interests first.
