I have a family member who is only 14 and whose parents are trying to force him into one of these things as well. Everyone in the family is accepting of him and we all have openly expressed our disagreement with his parents, and we have been trying to be there as much as possible for him, but nothing we say or do really seems to convince his parents that he is just fine as he is. Do you have any advice to offer on how we might help get him out of this situation or at least help him cope with the bullshit being thrown his way?

We are doing everything in our power to try to stop this. The psychological effects are the main thing we are concerned about along with his sense of self being destroyed before he really even has a chance to explore it. I, along with a few other family members, have offered him a place to stay if need be, but unfortunately his parents have threaten to take legal action against us. Lately a few of us have been trying to work out the kinks to see what legal measures we can take and my cousin and his wife are trying to see if they can do anything to take him in as their own as they are the closest thing to decent parents as he has.

Unfortunately no. His parents went through his phone and found some text messages that were being exchanged with a friend of his.

This may very well be something we end up doing. When ever I see him, I try to emphasize the fact that he is not screwed up or broken and that rather it's his parents who are too caught up in their own way who are the ones that are fucked up.
