Did you ever worry that you were causing a kind of culture rot, as I remember the media accused the show of doing early on?

It should be noted that lots of radicalisation starts like this. I wouldn't advocate religion as a solution to mental health crises and emotional vulnerability. Even back when I used to believe, I found it way too crass and predatory. I think human contact and the promise of hope are probably the most important parts of the benefits of the religious offer, maybe churches should push that and, if people want the rest of it, that's up to them. I think more could be accomplished with true kindness over pushing a prescriptivist faith/identity on people as a packaged solution to mental health issues. It just doesn't work that way - believers suffer too, all the time.

Yeah, actually, I would. Typically hanging yourself with your belt under no external duress is suggestive of internal duress and emotional vulnerability. Even when it's external duress, it's the effect it has on you internally that leads to suicidal ideation and affect and then action.
