I'm wondering why, after gaining traction in some chains you hadn't called Central and said, "hey, we're doing so well in these chains; are you willing to take us nationally?"
or, have you done this?

awesome.
I just kept reading something to the effect of, "I went and talked to the manager... I went and talked to the manager"
And I'm thinking, "oh god... now that you're selling out in X number of their chains, for the love of god, why don't you contact corporate?!"
Personally, I think Robert saw the value in this; and I think he could relate and respect your drive... as he was what? 21 years old when he contacted Yahoo! for the sale of his software company. Aside from that, he could see the traction the product was having in stores. But I can tell you, as somewhat of an obsessive shark tank show watcher; the V.C.'s have a tendency of avoiding start-ups that seek to be big name players in industries that are already "taken" by larger companies.
Despite this, I think you, your drive and your product impressed Robert. And you can tell he wanted in. But I think the thing that stopped him was lack of in-depth stat reporting. Like, knowing the numbers in and out... being familiar with terms such as CPC, CPA, etc. and knowing what these are valued at would've sent the guy over the top.
Cuban on the other hand... he always has a tendency of being like, "yeah, I'm thinking about investing in this product..."
...doesn't.
But who was even worse than him was Damian (FUBU guy). He was an informative shark, but rarely EVER invested.
I think if you continue to attempt to make contact with corporate and really sell yourself, and the numbers you've done... you will be in far more chains.
If it were me however, I'd lower my profit margin to get more of these fuckers out there. And, I'd sell in Costco.
The image/dream associated with a product is A PSYCHOLOGICAL OCCURRENCE/EFFECT
you can sell this water, on the street, in the middle of a dark alley where people are shooting heroin all around you; and the person who buys it can still manage to associate your product with Upscale, Quality
coming from a buddhist, I know it's all bullshit lol
but, do your customers?
would the ones in Costco?
I think you're screwing yourself over by not offering to such chains, and supposing Robert had those connections... and you refused... it would be more than enough reason for him to pull out, due to seeing an apprehension to make money. I've seen them, so many times... if they can't get majority share, or- even if they like the product- but the investor is "difficult", they're out.
Something you might wish to think about doing...
since you've already acquired a relationship with some chains; why don't you use this opportunity to introduce more products?
and, I mean... try to get PLAIN water, nothing fancy, just plain ole bottled water introduced into these stores.
See how many sales you make now.
This, coming from someone who invested money into a make-up company that made the solid mistake of being too attached to THE IMAGE (albeit, how important that may be) of the product; yet failing to see that if Art gets in the way of Money, than the business can definitely suffer.
I myself, am a very stubborn person. I have an idea, and it must be This Way. But being an entrepreneur is all about being elastic, and adapting, FAST
this is all just an opinion.
But congratulations to you and your family on the success. I hope to purchase your product, someday, at 1 dollar as opposed to 30!
I have a millionaire friend I told about this, he asked if there was cocaine in the water... I said "no"

Any word from Nestle yet concerning their intention to seize said water? :P
