Her town was bombed almost every day

Which town are we talking about here?

Heilbronn is really beautiful so I'd wonder if your grandma remembers how the city looked before the air raids and how it was like growing up there?

Something similar happened in my town last year. They found a blind shell and evacuated nearly all of the inner city until they defused it. Pretty exciting day in Halle.

Thanks for doing this AMA and your work.

My question may seem weird but the DR Congo is one of the most fascinating countries to me, so the temptation to visit it is quite big. So considering the current situation, is it anyhow possible for a (white) tourist to travel through the country safely?

I heard, that one would at least need a guard to take care of you or even better two guards so they can watch each other as well. Now I'm not up for any sensationalism but would love to see Congo's incredible nature and have no interest visiting the conflict zones. But I've been to Sudan this year and realized, that our media likes to blow things out of proportion, while Sudan was one of the greatest countries I have ever been to and people were just genuinely nice. Also one barely realized, that there is a war going on there as long as you were far enough away.

Would you say this applies to Congo aswell or would you generally discourage possible tourism? I also met quite some people from Congo while I lived in Tanzania and they were generally nice people and told us, that visiting the country wouldn't be THAT dangerous as long as you have locals taking care of you.

Sorry, if this seems like a "wrong" question for this AMA.
