I am guessing that this has to do with environment, when solo you arent worried about anyone else enjoying things so what feels best for you is what happens. When you are playing a duet or ensemble, it changes and others enjoyment needs are important for you to meet. So your pace of excitement rises and falls rather then straight line rise when solo.
