My daughter has TMJ issues. Arthritis, with difficulty opening and closing her jaw and it getting stuck. She sometimes has to move her jaw with her hand to to make her mouth close. Also, sometimes she is in a lot of pain. I can't see my daughter having that type of surgery. She hates doctors. Amazing that this procedure is available and I must add you are are very brave . person. I guess I am curious as what made you decide to have this surgery? Did you have other options available?

My daughter is 25. She started having issues when she was a teenager. She believes her braces caused the issue. I did take her to a TMJ specialist at a top notch facility when she was a teenager. She did have some mouthpieces that she had to wear. She has degeneration in her jaw, not full body Arthritis. After having a host of health issues when younger, She absolutely hates going to doctors. Some days she is in so much pain, then others it is more of a nuisance. She literally just walked into the kitchen and I told her about your surgery. She said that is cool (about replacing the jaw) and she didn't know they could do that. I guess if anything your post has let her see that there are options if her jaw continues to deteriorate. As she is an adult I can't force her to go back to the doctor. Good luck with your healing, again you are so brave and thanks for sharing!
