Second question:

How come Kaspersky don't offer a free AV like many of your competitors do?

One of the ex-developers of Firefox said that third party AVs were untrustworthy compared to Windows Defender because of how "hard" they made it to update browsers.

Obviously, they were speaking solely as a developer and not as an end-user, and I found their comments wholly irresponsible.

What did you think of them?

Well because it's a foot in the door.

The prevailing advice at the moment is that paying for an AV is pointless when there's Bitdefender Free available, which is as good as Kaspersky when it comes to detection and it's extremely lightweight.

I mean people mistakingly believe that Windows Defender is just as good.

At that point, you're trying to lure people in with extra "features" which are, more often than not, unwanted and heavy-handed protection for web browsing, online shopping and so on.

Being a paid-only solution puts you at an immediate disadvantage, as far as home users are concerned.
