I think you slightly answered your own question here! E-bikes are better for the environment with zero emissions, you can charge them anywhere you bring them that has a standard wall outlet, and in most states they are bike path friendly as long as their motor does not exceed 750W.
E-Bikes are also typically smaller, easier to store, and easier to maintain. Take it from me, I had a Tomos 2 Stroke for 3 years prior to working at Jetson.

Totally understand your concern here. To be fully transparent, yes, keeping a lithium ion battery in the cold can poorly impact performance. But our e-bikes are small enough to store in most cozy places (I can fit it in my NY apartment if that gives you an idea). :)
