I haven't had time to check up on whether these have been answered yet, but I think the basic questions that could summarize this event for a layperson such as myself are these:

• What order of magnitude of flow are we talking about?
• How did the team verify it's liquid water instead of any other liquid or unknown phenomenon? Some spectroscopic instrument in orbit?
• What does the finding imply? How is it "more" than what was already known (past liquid water, current water ice)?
• Are there any immediate practical gains to this knowledge (ie outside terraforming/permanent colony)?
