When you see something unexpected, do you take your pipe out of your mouth before exclaiming "Begorrah!" or just leave it in there?

I'm 30 and see the 1940s through rose-colored glasses when society was structured and men were men, etc... this is obviously a widespread view. As someone who lived through the decade, what would you say to someone who thinks it must have been the greatest time to be alive?

Do you still feel unsafe? Does Bulger still have loyal soldiers out and about with axes to grind?

Do you get pissy when people refer to you as a guard? My friend who is also a prison guard always gets pissy.
