Why does it seem that during religious discussions there is so much focus on the existence of a higher power and whether or not there is an afterlife?

I mean like, why the focus on those existential questions and not ones about morality and meaning? I guess I mean to ask, why does it seem like discussions about religion are all about what you should believe and less about how you should live?
