I do the same work OP does and I can tell you that I haven't. Usually if you find a big one that's a female and the females will usually have the whole manhole to themselves so if you find and kill them then your pretty safe to jump in the hole. That doesn't count the pipe though. I've TV'd pipe that had a family of spiders living in one of the joints.
