From a former wastewater treatment plant operator I thank you for what you do. My question is what is your favorite and least favorite part of the job also what is one dirty little secret about the water treatment field that most people don't know?

Not OP but it's how cloudy the water is. The reason for measuring turbidity is because its caused by small particles of solids. It can be measured by nephelometric light procedure which are expressed by NTUs. It can also visual methods which are measured in JTUs

Are there any plans to switch to standard liquid chlorine considering the instability, danger, and expense of operating on chlorine gas?

There's quite a few reasons. The two biggest ones are that I never wanted to work in the field what so ever and I got treated like shit. The straw that broke the camel's back was being knee deep in an ABW from 8pm to 2am pulling dead tilapia out, I ended up twisting both my ankles and my knee pretty bad along with whacking my head on the ABW arm and slicing my eyebrow open. My OIC wouldn't report any of my injuries and wanted me to go out and grab basin samples. I informed him that he could shove those samples up his ass and that he needed to report my injuries. My OIC decided to call the lead operator instead. Me and the lead operator talked for a few minutes and decided that it would be in the best interests of everyone if I left. I was planning on transferring out within that next month anyways. However besides my OIC I still have a pretty good rapport with most of the people working their including the lead operator, chief operator, and a few higher ups in HR.
