Actually, debt collectors have to stop calling you at work if you ask once. If you have to invoke that bullshit ask in any other way than in the native tongue of the land in which you live, the debt collection firm is in violation.

I had this happen a few years ago with a new phone number. I figured the owner dumped the number to stop debt collection calls. I tracked down the debt collection company's web page, and found the name of a law firm connected to them. Looked up the firm and left a message concerning the harassment with the admin there. A lawyer called back in an hour and took my name off their list.

Or you could call your phone or cell company and request a new number.
