Do you still feel that sweatshops are still "an unpleasant but necessary stage in industrial development"?

Thank you for your time. As a follow up if you have time, do you not think that there is a 'middle path'?

To over generalize, you have the biz-friendly pros and the progressive cons, but there seems to be little in the way of alternatives that would provide jobs without being exploitative or harmful to the employees or the planet. And the two goals aren't mutually exclusive.
