What would you say to those that say that these trolls are a necessary evil if we are to keep inventor motivation high?

First, wanted to say good job you guys!

Second, that's a strong answer, and from what i know it's supported by research into human motivation. So don't let people lie to you on that front.

nevertheless, what about investors that make inventions possible? they won't invest in an idea or innovation that can't be protected in such a way as to make big profits. what do you say to that?
