Nah, in my experience physicists generally don't mind the show (and many like it), it's nerds who can't stand it.

Well, you can read a lot of detailed criticisms of BBT on reddit, but in my opinion many people here don't like simply because it makes fun of nerds. Also many people don't find it very funny, though I don't really know why that should make them hate the show.

But ecology is a pretty big deal in Western Europe, especially in the northern countries and despite the big state there, I would still call these countries capitalist. Conversely, the whole communist block was not capitalist at all and ecology was pretty much a zero concern there. It may not be in company's interest to care about ecology, but it is in society's interest to regulate companies and this is not in contradiction to capitalism.
