Thanks for doing this AMA. Fast Track has been introduced in Congress, and, if passed, would essentially bypass any meaningful Congressional input in trade agreements. What is the Sierra Club doing to stop Fast Track, H.R. 3830? What allies are you partnering with?

It's because Labor Union money comes from union dues paid by members and that data is essentially public via LM2 reporting to the Dept. of Labor. While it's technically possible, I've never heard of a single individual or group making a voluntary, large contribution through a labor union. Just doesn't happen. Trade associations, like the Chamber of Commerce, however do not have do disclose their membership or at what level those members contribute to the organization.

Edit: At the same time, a 501c4 or c6 could be funded entirely by a labor union and they wouldn't have to tell you which one. That happens all the time.

To further clarify, social welfare organizations get to decide for themselves what "social welfare" is. There's no definition that they have to abide by. For example, the Sierra Club and Club for Growth are both social welfare organizations. Even though their vision of what the social welfare is differs dramatically, they are both promoting social welfare as they see fit.
