The truck industry usually lets the car industry figure out the technology first - reliable is better than "latest and greatest". I would expect it to take a decade after consumers can buy a car that does NOT require a person in the driver's seat.

One of the issues is that fuel economy is huge too - if you have no need for a driver, you can completely redesign the cab, which is a big investment.
