It's because of the way the camera takes the photo. It scans the image, so some parts of the image are taken a fraction of a second after other parts.

In the meantime, the propeller has moved, so the result is that the propeller appears bent.

The truth is, we couldn't. We built it in such a way that there was no going back after we turned on v4.

I'm no computer scientist, but that seems extremely rash.

I'm surprised that during periods at dock, subs don't have their propellers swapped out, shafts replaced, journals rebored, etc etc, just so that their 'swaths' (at least for that specific vessel) can be changed.....

Anyway, upvoted for a very interesting post.

Edit: any chance of an IAMA....assuming it won't break the Official Secrets Act?

If some people see us as anti-science that’s unfortunate because the Greens party room is easily the most scientifically literate of any of the parties in parliament.
