Do you honestly think that NK's government is going to allow foreign tourists to visit the poor starving villages or the concentration camps? No, they'll send you to the city where they have eyes on every citizen and make sure that they seem normal. It's propaganda and it just worked on you.

You're right, because dozens of North korean refugees' stories about inhumane treatment and thought control us western propaganda and your friends' government allocated tourist trip isn't. We must be misinterpreting their stories since your friends had a good time.

And when did I ever doubt western propaganda? My point was that your anecdotal story of your friends having a good time doesn't mean that north Korea "isn't as bad as we make it out to seem". Something tells me that you've never read the stories of those who risked their lives and families to escape north korea. But, again, your friends saw nothing wrong so it's probably okay right?

That would be a decent argument if there weren't north korean refugees literally risking their lives and their entire family generation to get away. Even those who are higher up on their social ladder. You won't get a tour through our prison systems but there's no Americans that are actively fleeing from their lives. We aren't being mind controlled by a regime. Man, you guys take one look around and it seems the entire country's completely fine when there's a crap load of first person accounts to the alternative?

Also if you're wondering why I'm so upset about your narrative it's because I'm a south korean. My family barely escaped north Korea back when the war started. North Korea is a truly horrible, terrible place and I don't take lightly to people trying to downplay what they're doing. I also can't believe you compared the ghetto to north korean death camps. Real good comparison.

Edit: also I keep hearing this argument about western propaganda but propaganda about what exactly? Even if north Korea was taken down, nobody gains anything financially except for the north koreans. Do you think the west wants to start a war in North Korea when they're already starting shit in the middle east? Also I'm not sure how you can call a refugee ' first person account as Western propaganda.
