I shall google a bit, and maybe prod :) You have me intrigued! When somebody says "wild horse race" I immediately think of this which I would imagine would be a) rather difficult over 1000km of rough terrain and b) would cause [rightly] outrage because of animal cruelty.
Sounds like the horses are vaguely used to handling/riding and are used to covering long distances on the rough terrain. I can see how this race and that video are world's apart in terms of feasibility and cruelty. Thanks for clarifying.

I'm a bit of a horsey person and have some questions about the Derby:
What happens to the horses before and after the Derby? Do you "borrow" from local herders, bulk buy or round them up off the land?
What lengths, if any, do you take to ensure the horses are sound and mentally/physically capable for such a gruelling race?
Finally what do you mean by "half-wild"? Can you clarify this?
