Not trying to be antagonistic, just curious, but would you ever strike in solidarity with paramedical staff and nurses if you thought that their employers were compromising patient safety?

My partner is a med student who came to the UK from the US: school fees are usually (dependent on school location and scholarships, of which there are far more) astronomically higher in the states, and salaries are usually (dependent on location of practice and specialty - all specialties are paid the same in the UK) also far higher (~£22,000 + up to 50% overtime, though this chunk of pay is seriously threatened in the new contracts)
This is something of a false comparison, however, as residents are still considered 'in training' to some extent, whereas junior docs, after potentially only 5.5 years of school, can be given a number of wards (~100 patients) to look after as the most senior medic. Residents, as I understand it, seldom have this level of responsibility.
