You have the ability to use HVAC when needed. What about using HVAC in the colder seasons (and I suppose on colder days in warm seasons) and natural ventilation in the summer? I live in Canada and it's even feasible here. For heating in the summer you can use solar heat gains and thermal mass to keep your house warm. It's all about planning and design from what I've seen, thanks for the reply!

That is pretty cool, and it doesn't seem like it would add much to the cost of building a house that includes that setup!

What is your opinion on building houses that utilize natural ventilation to cool and increase quality of air? Do you think it can be as effective as HVAC systems (or at least effective enough to be worth the reduction in energy consumption)?
