What equipment would you recommend for a brand-new, low-budget podcast to get the best sound? Like, in the $300 range. Would you prioritize nice microphones first or a nicer audio interface to grow on?

This is for Chris concerning the Punch Brothers: What happened to the Movement structure you started out with in "Punch"? The improvisational elements were still around in the other albums, but I was wondering why they went away and were replaced with more traditional songs, especially since they seemed to be an integral part of your vision for the band.
