My son was born at 24 weeks last summer. He was 1lb 12oz and in the NICU for 4m. He actually just came off daytime oxygen yesterday (big day for us!). The medical technology and knowledge has come so far, he has good vision and mild high muscle tone in his limbs. We don’t know what the future will hold for him but I love seeing stories of preemies living full, happy lives. Thank you for sharing! What advice would you share with my son (that we can pass along as he grows) as he navigates a world that doesn’t always accommodate differences?

I disagree. I lose paper planners and then stop using them. I use OneNote, which I can sync between my personal computer, work computer, and phone. It's amazing. Here's an example of the "dashboard" system that I use.

I came up with this system myself at work (I'm a middle school tech specialist and science teacher) and then adapted it for my home life. The key elements are:
- A weekly forecast that you update once a week (I do Sundays)
- Habit tracking that you copy-paste to another page once a week
- A separate calendar page (or app or whatever) that you use to schedule later details
- All your lists (grocery, tasks, reminders, etc) that have links to relevant resources (other OneNote pages or external links)

I remember this vividly because I teach at a school down in Seattle and we had some students with friends and relatives at MPHS. This event prompted our school to develop a more robust emergency response plan, hire 24/7 security guards, and train some of the teachers in psychological first aid.
It's incredibly helpful to hear you tell your experience of these events and, though I hope I never have to support students who have been in your shoes, I now feel more prepared to. I hope all the best for you and I really encourage you to explore writing as an option in your future, you've got some serious talent!
How did the culture of your school change after the shooting? Could the school and/or your teachers have done anything more or differently after words?
