As a moderator of /r/Catholicism, I really am curious about your engagement strategies on the internet.

How do you discern it's time to walk away from a discussion?

What strategies to you have for engaging with non-Catholics and lukewarm Catholics?

Have you noticed any changes in online discussion trends in the last few months with all the scandals?

I understand your position father, but wouldn't someone in who is participating openly in any type of sinful activity (cohabitation, supporting abortion, etc), even if they have gone to Confession recently, still in a state of sin if they don't show some movement towards being in line with the Church?

My understanding of Confession is that one must be sorry and want to change, e.g. I can't confess going out and getting drunk this weekend when I still have plans to go out and get blackout drunk next weekend. I have to have it in my heart that going out and getting drunk isn't good for me and have some sort of indication that I'm not going to do that again. If I do it again, it's okay and I can go to confession again. However, I can't enter the confessional with the intent to keep sinning.

Is there a line that the Catholic Church needs to draw when it comes to open, persistent sin (Canon 915 comes to mind)?

Edit: Punctuation

Thanks for the answer. It's really difficult sometimes to strike a balance in the anonymous Internet world of letting conversations happen and moderating for charity/intent especially with almost500,000 subscribers.

Please pray for the mod team. We've been praying for your AMA today since it was announced.

Aside from the culture shock from India, how were your new "parents"? Were the rules over the top? Did it change how you treat your parents and life now?

But that's the point of Canon 915. Some things can be assumed because outward actions reflect the unobservable movements of the heart. How can someone claim to be penitent, which is a necessary condition for a valid confession if there is no observable movement towards rectifying the sin they should be confessing?
