About 15 seconds before the fire reached him, he just sort of "gave up".

My guess is, is that the hot air/smoke causing lungs and brain function to fail to give the appearance of giving up.

I know it's a little morbid, but people should be aware in case of an emergency. It's not the fire that gets you, it's the hot toxic gases.

I just want to be happy and financially stable.

Don't we all lol Happiness come from within. Financial stability comes from knowledge and self discipline. No better time to learn and do more than now.
