So, I'm noticing that already there are a lot of replies coming your way about how horrifying this all is and reacting to your comfort level with killing animals. So, here's my questions:

How do you feel about the animals you slaughter, on a personal level? Do you see and respect them as living creatures? And, assuming that you do respect them, can you describe to everyone how being part of the slaughtering process that creates food for folks has affected how you relate to other animals?

I want to be clear - I'm asking these questions so you can answer them. Not because I think you're mean or callous or anything for doing what you do. As long as people want meat, you're just doing what humans have done since forever. Thanks for any reply!

BONUS QUESTION: Almost forgot - What do you think of people who eat meat, but refuse to acknowledge the realities of where it comes from? Thanks again!

Hi all! Thanks for doing this AMA.

My SO and I recently moved into the area around Mt. Rainier. I've lived here before, but she's never lived close to a volcano and she's having what I think - and hope - is a little unnecessary anxiety about being so close (Tacoma, WA area). Could you briefly comment on some details about potential Mt. Rainier eruptions, such as:

1 - How much warning would we likely have that an eruption is going to occur?

2 - If Rainier erupts, what areas are in the most danger?

3 - What do you see as the overall likelihood of Rainier erupting in the next several decades, and if you think it's likely, how dramatic will that event likely be/what magnitude of an eruption will it likely be?

Thanks so much. I'm hoping to put her mind at ease with your answers, but I'm prepared to be proven wrong in my not worrying about these issues! Really appreciate your time - thanks again!

Hi, Caitlin! My girlfriend and I are big fans - we briefly got to meet you in Santa Cruz last year when you were there for a signing at Bookshop Santa Cruz (I complimented that awesome scarab necklace you were wearing, on the off chance you recall that).

My girlfriend is at work, but she would kill me if I didn't ask: Do you have any tips for folks wanting to start out in your industry, in terms of identifying good and bad employers? She very much wants to be a part of that world and help people, and doesn't want to end up working with a place that is ripping people off, etc.

Thanks!

If only they'd... written a book or something. Maybe then you could find the answer to your question. I guess it's just a mystery.
