Because you can do it without nuclear, which removes the mining / waste / weapons problems.

It's better than coal, but worse than renewables.

Nb for international readers: AEMO is the Australian Energy Market Operator, and... not progressive. If they're claiming the grid can handle 100% renewable energy, there is no one better qualified to judge that in the country.
