Your story is very similar to my mums. She is 67 and is brca 1 positive, as are many members of our family. She has also had cancer 4 times, and has had multiple surgeries. She has had a botched lumpectomy, a radical hysterectomy, and two separate mastectomies with reconstruction. She is battling liver cancer that metastasized from her last round with breast cancer. She has been on 3 different chemo protocols over the past year since she was diagnosed and is about to start her 4th this week. She will be taking daily capsidebene(sp) too, how are the side effects for you? My mum has had a pretty bad time with the other drugs and is worried she won't be able to tolerate these ones either. I have a 50/50 chance of having the gene mutation, if I have it my children have a 50/50 chance. It's really scary. I will be getting tested in the next couple years, once I'm done breastfeeding my son and have gotten as much insurance as I feel I'll need for my whole life. Sucks pretty bad that I would be denied most life/disability insurance if I were to test positive. If I do test positive I will most likely have a preventive double mastectomy with reconstruction and radical hysterectomy, I would most likely start HRT as well.
In hindsight are there things you wish you had done differently that might have changed your outcome?

I'm very sorry for your loss. My mum was offered chemo after her second mastectomy in August of 2015 as a preventative measure against metastasis, she declined it. I wish I had pressured her to do the chemo. She ended up doing it anyway, only instead of it being preventative it was in hopes of extending her life. It's been almost one year since the liver cancer diagnosis and 3, soon to be 4 different chemo protocols. The whole situation makes me so angry and the new therapies that are on the horizon, but won't come soon enough leave me feeling incredibly frustrated. The one thing she won't have to face is the very painful end of life experience your mom and so many other go through. We are very fortunate to have access to doctor assisted death where we live. I hope things work out for your sister, the insurance thing is a real bitch.
