I'm the smallest one in my jujitsu class (also the only girl). I know my lower center of gravity is good but the benefit is offset a bit by my comparatively light weight. Any other advice for the shorties? :)

Just recently I went out to dinner with my boyfriend and it was a buffet place. The waiter came by to introduce himself and take our drink orders and he turns to me and goes, "and how old are you, Sweetie?" I was caught kind of off-guard because although people often think I'm younger (sometimes much younger) than I am, I don't normally encounter it in this kind of place (out to dinner at a semi-nice place with my boyfriend). Not to mention that this was how I would expect someone to greet a very young kid (like elementary age).

So I was like, "wat?" And he was like, "how old are you?" So after a brief pause I was like, "thirty-one." He paused too, then stammered and was like, "31...31" while he looked at his ticket that the hostess had given him. I guess he thought maybe I was a kid and would get the kid rate at the buffet. I probably should've just said I was 12.

By the way, this waiter was, I would guess, about 23 himself. He was SO EMBARRASSED. I thought it was hilarious. We didn't see him the rest of the night, he handed us off to some other waiter lol.

I agree but as long as you don't get too overblown in your idea of how good you are/how well you can take some hits, I think it's in general a good thing. Even just learning how to throw a punch correctly is a big deal. People think it's easier than it is.

Back when I was teaching martial arts, I mostly taught the kids' classes but every once in a while I would cover for another instructor on the adult classes. I did this a couple of times in one week and met this mother and her two sons who were really of the age to be in the kids' classes but the mom insisted they come to the adult class with her. One of the kids had a little cough. A month or two later I'm subbing again and the kid still has this cough. Just to make small talk during stretching, I say to the kid something like, "still haven't gotten rid of that cold?" And the mom says, "he has Tourette's." I'm like, "oh, ok," or something like that and dropped it but I felt like such a bitch.
