Excellent point. My father-in-law is retired Air Force. He is a diehard Republican who hates socialism. However, when he heard us complaining about spending $1,000/month on daycare, he couldn't believe how much we paid. When we asked what he paid for daycare back in the day, he responded, "We had the best daycare on our base, and it was given to us at just a few dollars a month." Obviously, we pointed out how socialism helped him in the military, citing that as an example. His response, "It was part of being in the military family, in that you all look out for each other." Cognitive dissonance, ladies and gentlemen.
