There's a great reason he doesn't want to stand trial - he'll go to prison because there's no public interest exemption to the Espionage Act. That means that he wouldn't be able to plead his case to a jury. Since why he did this is probably at least as important as what he did, he would need to be able to lay that out - but his reasons for doing all this would probably be inadmissable in court to begin with.
