I think its less the fact that we might harbor anyone and more of a imaginary stick that they can wield at any point. Imagine having some sort of dissent in the States, you have the freedom of speech, you can say whatever you want about the government as long as you don't threaten anyone's personal safety. However, HK being the last bastion of free speech, we are facing the possible end of this freedom and extradition as a possible option for China to minimize dissent or voice internationally.

Carrie Lam is running a shit show basically. She went on the news explaining how as a mother, she "worried for the youth of Hong Kong". If she worried for our youth, she would have tried to negotiate or at least present a case to us. Instead, she sicked the "raptor" riot cops on us. But unlike Presidents, or even senators, her position is selected, so she has no need to report or fight for the Hong Kong people. We just never had someone so blatantly enforce the will of mainland.

She is deeply unpopular with the youth/ the millennial generation and even the generation before us. However, older generation feels that the strength of China is a gift, that we should only fear such policies if we are criminals, completely missing the point.

As OP has mentioned, We are under One Country, Two System. Or so we were promised when HK was returned to China. However, we saw very subtle and not so subtle integrations of Chinese policies in our culture, city, and education system.

I don't believe China's plan is to fully take us by force. They plan to do what they are the best at. Change our culture, and wait for millennial and the generation before us to die out.

Safety is an interesting idea. A lot of the protesters made a specific effort to buy MTR passes leaving fearing their safety, but the reality of the situation is, if they want us, they don't need a law to get us. Many had disappeared without any context.

The mood definitely soured as soon as the police came near the crowd. I got their a bit later and the riot cops were waiting to beat us. They got super agitated and we got a first hand taste of the reality that regardless of what kind of protest we were a part of, they were always going down today's path.

The tear gas was pretty awful. Not only was it awful for our senses, but it caused a crazy amount of panic for everyone. I was proud that folks I was with today didn't end up stampeding and hurting ourselves.

I am an aspiring MFT in my senior year in college.

I wanted to know what your average work day pertains of and does what you do daily affect your psyche when you go home at the end of the day?

Also, as an international student, how does the market feel today? Does it feel like its growing or declining?

Thanks!

While his antics might be a tad eccentric, I think he is generally a really nice guy who cares about people. I mean you can see it in the way he plays. So much heart in his game
