This is something very interesting to me as well. My ex and I were deeply in love for over 10 years, then she had our son and she said I smelled different. After that, our relationship sputtered and eventually flamed out. Obviously there are a lot of variables at play there, but it was a stark contrast to when I'd catch her smelling me randomly.

I wonder how pregnancy and hormones play a role in that.

I'll tell you though, your eyes and brain betray you after a while. I was in Korea for a year. When I got off the plane in Seattle, literally the first thing I did was text my wife, "holy shit people in America are fat."

I couldn't believe it was that bad. In Korea I'd see 1 out of 100 fat people and joke, see the have fat people too. In America it's like every other person.

Certainly possible. I stopped searching for reasons long ago, and just decided I wanted to be the best me I could. The smell comment made me think of it, and share a similar experience.

I think that has to do with the activity/age of the two places, and the audience they cater to. I read somewhere once that the average New Yorker walks five miles a day. Especially in the touristy parts of America, ie. Florida, everything is based off of ease of access and excess.

Wake-up in room. Walk to beach one minute away. Be lazy. Return to hotel one minute away, eat food. Take ride to tourist trap five minutes away. Walk around tourist trap for one hour. Take ride five minutes back. Eat food. Walk to beach one minute away. Walk beach for 30 minutes. Return to hotel, eat dessert. Rince, recycle, repeat.

Good morning Dr. Matthews, I have been fortunate in my career in the military to speak with groups ranging from 100 or less, to over 1,000. I did this working for some extremely renowned research psychologists and psychiatrists.

Do you feel that women in particular have more trouble getting audience buy-in?

I as a male I never got difficult hecklers, but some of our females did in male dominated circles. They could be an expert in our material, but it seemed they were the ones that had the most difficulty getting what Cheryl Sandberg describes as a seat at the table.

Also, do you have any strategies for how to deal with these type of people?
