If politicians held other politicians responsible for their crimes, they themselves might be held responsible for their own crimes. So it’s mostly a bunch of people jerking each other off while pretending to look the other way.

Also, if you have solid evidence of something a politician did, you now own that person, and a politician in your pocket is much more valuable than whatever you would get from the new guy who would replace him, who you don’t even know.
