I won't speak for him, but it isn't often feasible to "just make this better". KeePass doesn't have any kind of infrastructure. With open source one problem you'll run into often is getting your patches merged

Plus there's also the "better to burn it down and start again" that becomes necessary from time to time

This is true, though statistics do show women less in the technical industry, so one could draw off of that alone.

and I must say that nowadays, it feels to me that the slice of people who aren't technical enough to be able to use KeePass, but still are technical enough to need a password manager is getting slimmer and slimmer.

I disagree. It's actually getting larger I think. More and more online services, more security breaches, more recommendations for using a password manager. Even large scale news sites and channeled have mentioned them.

Think of your average girlfriend or wife. My wife uses LastPass, only because I taught her to use it and why it is important.

But teaching her KeePass is just..that's going to be difficult. Managing syncing between different devices...it doesn't have password sharing either.

LastPass right now is hands down, the easiest solution you can throw at anyone. I'd like a competitor to that..one that is open source.

LastPass is the most popular, by far.

Moreover, come on. "The average girlfriend or wife"? That's somewhat icky.

Sounds sexist but in my experience it is most accurate. I can count the amount of female spouses who know technology like that, on a few fingers...maybe.
