I agree with you, especially about the presence of females in science world. I'm always happy to meet girls that study math, biology etc. and I respect and esteem them very much, nowadays it's stupid to have stereotypes about genders.

I'm quite sure his message wanted to be "science is not only for nerds, look at me I have tattoos and a cool shirt", but he used a wrong shirt. Bad luck Matt.
