He said 100,000 copies at $14.99 (we'll round it to $15 for easier math)

That's 1,500,000 raw.

30% is Steam's cut, so we're at 1,050,000 raw. Let's round that down to a neat 1,000,000 to account for licenses, hardware purchases and other business spending for a tiny team like theirs etc.

He's from Switzerland, Zurich and Google says that on the federal level, tax rate is 8.5%. I'm not sure how accurate this is, but that would bring the million down to 915,000.

The game was at a cheaper price before October 2017 and has had a few sales since, so we'll chop that by 40%. This will also help compensate the possible cost of employees and contractors he may have hired. That brings us down to 549,000$.

I'd say that's roughly right. About half a million dollars would be my best educated guess. :)

Very well deserved btw, great game.

That graph is what a normal indie game's sales graph looks like on Steam.

It doesn't show that "most, practically all" copies were sold during sales. It just shows that there are huge spikes of units sold during those sales, but it looks like his game is selling several hundred copies per week, consistently since launch, meaning that over time, he most likely sold more copies globally out of sales than during sales.
