Maybe you can help explain why the best chocolate would come from Belgian chocolatiers and not from the folks growing it in S. America/Hawaii, etc.?

Never did quite understand how something so uniquely "New World" became known as a speciality of Old Europe.

Surely as a former CC'er you know that's used to, right?

I guess my question is, why? Why is Belgium the place where turning this S. American plant into amazing chocolate? I guess I could ask r/AskHistorians ...

Any advice for a reporter with just a few years of experience who wants to get into this kind of work? Do you have any language skills you use or do you use translators? I'm a reporter in Alaska and have traveled a lot in Asia after college and would love to work there again (would also like to try working in places like Afghanistan and Pakistan too).
