Lots of red tape and a huge expense. Not OP but my dairy farm family looked into processing our own milk and we would need about 500k.

No OP, but we take our newborn calves from their mothers right away. Dairy cattle have little mothering instinct and calves will often go unattended or be stepped on. We house them in group pens with other calves, feed them their mothers milk. We provide round the clock care to insure they are healthy. Our heifers (females) eventually become part of the herd. The Bulls (males) are castrated at the appropriate age and raised until almost 2 when they become tasty steaks and burgers.

The terms heat and hot seem to be relative to where a person lives. My Scottish aunt is sweltering in 70F degree weather. My Sister in law from Dallas is freezing in 70F weather.

Holsteins. Some are ok mothers, but all produce too much milk, and many have no idea what to do. My dad is a control freak anyway and the calves are HIS babies. They all thrive under his care though.

Dairy farm girl here. Couldn't get any college aid and my folks were broke. So much gross income so little net. It's a good life though. Hard work but nice way to grow up. My sibs and I try to give my parents days off when we can.
